This can be used for just about anything — well, anything small enough. But that’s the kind of thing you need to organize into a visible storage system or it just gets lost. Right?
I loved the jewelry organizer my hubby gave me (click here for that post). I saw a slightly smaller one for $9 at Wal-Mart while shopping the other day and snagged it knowing I could put it to use.
First, though, I wanted to make it a little more appealing to the eye. So I began by removing all the drawers.
I decided to spray paint it and was drawn to this “watermelon” pink by Krylon (also at Wal-Mart).
Let me just say that spray paint has come a long way. This can was worth the extra dollar or so more than the cheaper stuff as it has a really nice sprayer. I sprayed lots of coats onto mine and I think it has a really wonderful rich hue now.
After waiting for it to dry, I filled ‘er up! Buttons, ribbon, ric rac, baker’s twine, clothes pins, wooden spoons, etc… perfect!
I’m already thinking of all the other ways I can use this: hair accessories for my daughter, office supplies (staples, paper clips, rubber bands, etc…), all sorts of crafts (I’m thinking beads) and toys. My kids have all these little tiny toys that we are always losing pieces to: squinkies, erasers, barbie accessories, gaming accessories (nintendo ds games, cords, styluses), etc… I think everyone in my family is going to need one of these now!
You really don’t have to do anything to this little cabinet. Easiest DIY ever: just put your stuff in it and you’re done! ![]()

Great project. I have one of these in my craft room but have not liked the colour. I may have to get some paint for it.
