{DIY} Drop Cloth Curtains

It has taken FOR-EV-ER to get anything at all accomplished on our bedroom “face lift”. It’s always great to get things done in one fell swoop, but that isn’t the way it works around here. Resources (time and $) are minimal for a project like this that is not really a necessity (like the kitchen sink draining or the toilet flushing). So, it is getting done piece by piece, slowly but surely.

I did accomplish something the other day though, so I’m excited to share. While at Wal-Mart (looking for paint for another project which will probably take me a year to get to actually doing), I came across drop cloths–GREY drop cloths (aren’t most drop cloths a natural color?). I liked that they weren’t really heavy but they still had enough weight to have a presence. Once the color and texture caught my eye, the dimensions struck me: 9 x 12. Hmmmm…. if I did my math right, that would make two curtains for my bedroom window if cut in half. I bought it. (I bought another one too, but that project has to wait.) You know the saying , “Measure twice, cut once”? Well, I was too excited to measure at all. I figured I could make it work.

I got busy cutting and then hemming (only two sides needed to be stitched since the cloth already had finished edges – total bonus). Within about one hour, the set of curtains were complete. Yes, ONE hour! Crazy, isn’t it?! I considered doing something more with them: adding a ruffle like this or maybe painting the cloth like this. But for now, I like them just the way they are: simple and easy. We can “grow into them” with time.

It’s so nice to have something done. Maybe it will inspire me to keep going!

The bed may be naked, but at least my windows are dressed!

Grey drop cloths at WalMart??!! Guess where I am going this weekend?! Ha. I am obsessed with textured grey anything. In fact I just got an awesome print that my husband surprised me with on Valentine’s Day framed with a textured grey mat. Imagine what I could do with an entire drop cloth! Thanks for the tip and the curtains look amazing! I know what you mean about home projects…I always get about 85% finished and then something else comes up and I never get there. But slow and steady wins the race (and decorates rooms, eventually)! :-)
