Time to share a few details for my son’s “Take a Hike” party details since it was a couple of weeks ago now. (I shared the invitation here–my favorite part of the invite was that we used kraft favor/treat bags as envelopes.) For some reason, I just haven’t gotten around to sharing any of the details yet. I guess I will start small.
I wanted to do this party without much effort or prep. I decided I was not going to make any of the food as I just didn’t have the time or energy–I honestly don’t think the kids noticed one bit. My husband found these s’mores mini cupcakes at Target which perfectly suited our theme, so we used them and set them into cupcake liners from the shop to brighten them up a bit. They sat atop cake stands that I had made (and not finished) a while back. Once again, a lucky coincidence that I hadn’t finished them yet as the unfinished wood was a much better choice for this party.
Since they were mini cupcakes, printed cupcake toppers would have been a bit overwhelming, so I pulled out the Target paper tape I had in my drawer that was waiting for a purpose. Can you say “PERFECT”? I couldn’t have planned it better. This dotted tape suited the color-scheme perfectly. And, it was a super easy and fast project do a quick wrap around the top of a lollipop stick, double it up over itself and cut a notch out: flag! That wasn’t enough, so I grabbed the green ribbon I’d been using for another project for the party and made flags out of those as well. Together, I think they were a nice compliment–simple, not too fussy, and inexpensive. A great party DIY!
