…me…

I’m a suburban girl–stuck between the city and the country. Big city dreams, little town life. Don’t get me wrong, my world is plenty full and endlessly beautiful.

My best friend (aka, my husband) and I have been gifted three little people–we still aren’t quite sure how we got three!!!! Two girls (10 and 1) and a boy (6). We have two rather large, furry, four legged feline men that live with us in our home in suburban Chicago–the perfect location with the surburan sprawl on one side and farm country on the other. Big skies, lots of corn and convenient shopping! I am also only 3.3 miles away from my day job, something I vowed I would never do, working at for the family business: a nursing and rehabilitation center (think nursing home).  I spend my days crunching and uncrunching numbers, which has no connection to my formal education and obvious interests. But, I must admit there is a level of satisfaction working for the family business that I never imagined possible.

Since I was a wee one, I’ve loved to “do”. I think some would deem it some sort of disorder, but I like to think I’m just an ultimate multi-tasker. It is not unusual to find me knitting while catching up on my favorite tv shows while on the recumbent bike exercising (yes, all at the same time). It should come as no surprise that my college edcuation involved a customized (by me) program which integrated photography, graphic design and creative writing. *Disclaimer: my education came right at the cusp of the digital world exploding–the first iMac (remember, these beasts came in blueberry, tangerine, etc.?) came out my last year in college–we had 3 in our computer lab–and my photography education was done in a true darkroom, rolling my own film for my vintage 1970′s Cannon AE1–I can still smell the chemicals…Therefore, my technical skills are a bit antiquated, but I still feel very strongly about asthetics and the whole design realm and think that I have something to offer.*

I will never be called the life of the party, but I like to think of myself as the life behind the party–I enjoy planning and executing celebrations of all sorts and especially on a budget which is the same way I like to approach home decor.

I like to start my days sleeping in and enjoying my standard Starbucks beverage of choice and end my days on the couch with my husband watching a movie and surfing the net, knitting, etc…

I am passionate about many things, and this blog is a place for those passions to live. Hope you’ll continue to join me!

…Lemon Drop Shop…

Want to talk about big dreams? Lemon Drop Shop is one of those. And, this blog is just a jumping off point (I hope). It provides a space for my infatuation with words and images–my own and other’s.

The “shop” part is developing. I hope to see it grow into providing resources and supplies for budget friendly, coordinating party, entertaining and hospitality supplies–and, just pretty little things. I’m a sucker for cute little trinkets. I’d love to hear what you would like to see too!

Oh, and the name…Besides the fact that my sweet tooth is out of control, lemon drops are sort of special to me. My grandfather used to keep a sack of lemon drops in the dash of his 1980 Lincoln Town Car. He and my grandmother used to take me for drives in the country–super boring for a kid: corn, soy beans, old farms. They would flop down the dual, black vinyl armrests and let me sit perched between them with a birds eye view of the endless farm country. My favorite part was that my grandfather would let me eat as many lemon drops as I wanted. Yummmmm….and we enjoyed them together. Sweet memories.
